Classroom Management Plan - Tami Wolf It is my belief that certain students act inappropriately in a Judaic Studies class because of the following factors: (1) Judaic Studies is irrelevant to them. It is irrelevant because they never/or hardly ever experience Judaism/Shabbat/Holidays in real time - No Judaic activities take place at home (2) Parents do not reinforce the importance of Judaic Studies. This is evidenced by the lack of attendance at Shabbat and Holiday services and Family Learning experiences (3 Some students view Hebrew School as “not real school”. (4)Some students are just placing themselves in the dynamic of the class - they may feel they have a reputation of acting out or not caring or maybe the parents have made disparaging comments about the school, the teachers, the Rabbis or any of the above. (5)Some students are unable to do the work and still others feel it is too easy 6) It is hard for students to learn at the end of the day after a full day of school already. 7) Students misbehave when they think the teacher is disorganized, not prepared for the class or if the teacher is merely reading the book to them! My Classroom Management Plan (CMP) In order to address the issue of the irrelevancy of Judaic Studies I intend to transform my classroom into a caring and cooperative Jewish community of learners by offering more hands on experiences, more activities involving acting out the prayers or holiday, history, etc. Also, I plan to offer more incentives to encourage attendance at Services and synagogue functions. Dealing with the second factor, prior to class and periodically throughout the year, I intend to write a letter to the parent or guardians of my student explaining the expectations, how attendance at all of the activities; ie: classes, Family Learning, Shabbat and Holiday functions helps to round out the curriculum - services are not to be seen as extra, but as a part of the required curriculum I plan to make sure that the children know this is real school by standardizing assessments and progress reports. Asking teachers to assign and follow through with projects, make sure the children and parents are aware of their Hebrew school homework. I’d like to be able to send weekly reports on the students’ progress. With regard to those students who wish to make my life as a teacher miserable or those who feel they have a reputation to live up to or those who feel that they don’t have to show any respect because their parents show no respect, I plan to continue to show respect to all the students, encourage all the teachers to try to find out the root of the issue that the child has. Is it another child in the class? Is it distractions in the room? etc. I hope to follow through with our discipline plan and I hope the teachers feel they are supported in their efforts to keep peace in the classrooms. This is where the individualized and differentiated instruction comes in to play. I plan to help my teachers discover the best way to teach the children in their classes. I plan to help them plan varied lessons in order to spark the interest of all the children. I plan to bring information and ideas to each teacher’s meeting to share with them on the best practices to reach and teach our students. I plan to encourage them to have a plan and a routine but also to be willing to “mix it up a little” to keep interest up. I plan to make it a priority for all my teachers to know that it is important to use different MoT’s and be aware of the styles of learning in order to accommodate all the children.
