Noun : Noun Naming words are called as Noun.
Eg. Sandeep, King, Box etc.,
Noun is defined as a word used for a name of a person, place, thing. A noun can tell you about who or what.
OBJECTIVE: To understand the structures
Who is, He is, She is and The are.
The structures I am-, You are-, He is-, She is-, They are- and This is can be used for introduction.
Class room activity : Class room activity Who is he?
He is Sandeep.
He is my friend, neighbour, colleague, classmate, relative etc.,
All these words are naming words. So These words are called as noun.
Who is She?
Who are they?
Who are you?
Words as names : Words as names Objective: To understand the structure What is, He is, She is and They are.
What is can be used to know what someone’s profession is.
What is he?
The replies can be: He is a lawyer, engineer, carpenter, programmer etc.,
What is she? What are they? What are you? Who are you?
PRONOUN : PRONOUN
PRONOUN : PRONOUN A word used instead of a noun is called as a pronoun.
Eg: Raja is smart. Raja is intelligent.
Raja is smart. He is intelligent.
Raja is a noun. He is the pronoun.
VERB : VERB Doing words/Action words are called as verb.
Ram is dancing.
Ram is Noun
Dancing is verb because it shows the action of Ram.
ADJECTIVES : ADJECTIVES Describing words are called as Adjectives.
Adjective will qualify only the noun.
Eg. Rose is a beautiful flower.
OBJECTIVE: To understand the structures How is, How are and the replies to such questions under the structures He is, she is, I am , We are, they are & it is.
The structures How is and How are used to ask for the description of a person or thing.
How is the job? It’s Challenging
How is he? He’s honest
Describing words : Describing words How’s are your parents? They are fine.
How’s the weather? It’s hot.
How’s your health? It’s better now.
Word like Honest, Hot, better, interesting are called describing words/adjectives.
How’s he? How’s She? How’s it? How are you? How’re they?
Activity on Adjectives : Activity on Adjectives Tell some describing words about the quality of a person. Eg. Clever boy.
Tell some describing words that tell us about the nature of a place. Eg. Narrow road.
Tell some describing words that tell us about the quality of things. Eg. Fresh Vegetables.
ADVERB : ADVERB An adverb will qualify a noun, a verb and another adverb.
An adverb is a word that adds more information about a place, time, manner, cause, or degree to a verb, an adjective, a phrase or another adverb.
Eg. Rose is a very beautiful flower.
She is dancing beautifully.
PREPOSITION : PREPOSITION Situational words are called as prepositions.
Eg. The book is on the table.
Preposition shows the relationship of the noun to the remaining part of the sentence.
CONJUNCTION : CONJUNCTION Connecting words are called as Conjunctions.
Eg. Ravi and Sudha are friends.
A Conjunction is a word that joins together two words, phrases or clauses.
Cup and saucer make a complete set but without tea or coffee it doesn’t make any sense.
INTERJECTION : INTERJECTION Emotional words are called as Interjection.
Eg. Alas! He is dead.
Hurrah! We have won the match.
