This course will measure: • The concepts of relational databases and the powerful SQL programming language. • Able to write queries against single and multiple tables, manipulate data in tables, and create database objects. • Able to use single row functions to customize output, use conversion functions and conditional expressions and use group functions to report aggregated data. • To demonstrate and hands-on practice reinforce the fundamental concepts. 2. Prerequisites: Familiarity with data processing concepts and techniques 3. Course Outline 3.1. Retrieving Data Using the SQL SELECT Statement I. List the capabilities of SQL SELECT statements II. Execute a basic SELECT statement 3.2. Restricting and Sorting Data I. Limit the rows that are retrieved by a query II. Sort the rows that are retrieved by a query III. Use ampersand substitution to restrict and sort output at runtime 3.3. Using Single-Row Functions to Customize Output I. Describe various types of functions available in SQL II. Use character, number, and date functions in SELECT statements 3.4. Using Conversion Functions and Conditional Expressions I. Describe various types of conversion functions that are available in SQL II. Use the TO_CHAR, TO_NUMBER, and TO_DATE conversion functions III. Apply conditional expressions in a SELECT statement 3.5. Reporting Aggregated Data Using the Group Functions I. Identify and describe the use of available group functions www.dtech-education.com II. Group data by using the GROUP BY clause III. Include or exclude grouped rows by using the HAVING clause 3.6. Displaying Data from Multiple Tables I. Write SELECT statements to access data from more than one table using equijoins and non equijoins II. Join a table to itself by using a self-join III. View data that generally does not meet a join condition by using outer joins IV. Generate a Cartesian product of all rows from two or more tables 3.7. Using Subqueries to Solve Queries I. Define and describe the types of problems that the subqueries can solve II. List the types of subqueries III. Write single-row and multiple-row subqueries 3.8. Using the Set Operators I. Describe set operators II. Use a set operator to combine multiple queries into a single query III. Control the order of rows returned 3.9. Manipulating Data I. Describe each data manipulation language (DML) statement II. Insert, Update, Delete rows into a table III. Control transactions 3.10. Using DDL Statements to Create and Manage Tables I. Categorize the main database objects II. Create a table and review the table structure III. List the data types that are available for columns IV. Explain how constraints are created at the time of table creation V. Describe how schema objects work 3.11. Creating Other Schema Objects I. Create simple and complex views II. Retrieve data from views III. Create, maintain, and use sequences IV. Create and maintain indexes V. Create private and public synonyms www.dtech-education.com 4. Course Accomplishments Upon successful completion of this course, students will be able to: • Identify the major components of Oracle Database 11g • Retrieve row and column data from tables with the SELECT statement • Create reports of sorted and restricted data • Employ SQL functions to generate and retrieve customized data • Run complex queries to retrieve data from multiple tables • Run data manipulation language (DML) statements to update data in Oracle Database 11g • Run data definition language (DDL) statements to create and manage schema objects

Description
In this course students learn the concepts of relational databases. This course provides the essential SQL skills that allow developers to write queries against single and multiple tables, manipulate data in tables, and create database objects. Students learn to control privileges at the object and system level.

This course covers creating indexes and constraints, and altering existing schema objects. Students also learn how to create and query external tables. Students learn to use the advanced features of SQL in order to query and manipulate data within the database, use the dictionary views to retrieve metadata and create reports about their schema objects.
