Key Concept: Understanding different ways of expressing time using analog and digital clock. Plan of action: The common units for measuring time in the customary system are seconds, minutes, hours, days, weeks, month, and years. 1 minute (min.) = 60 second (sec.) 1 hour (hr.) = 60 minutes (min.) 1 day = 24 hours (hr.) 1 week (wk.) = 7 days 1 year (yr.) = 52 weeks (wk.) 1 year (yr.) = 12 months (mo.) Reading Analog Clock Analog Clock There are 3 hands of a clock. The short hand is the hour hand, the longer hand is the minute hand and thinner hand is the second hand. There are twelve numbers on the clock face, and each number represents five minutes. If we Begin at twelve, count five minutes for every time the long hand passes a bigger number i.e if the long hand is on the 4, it is 4 x 5, or 20 minutes past the hour.
