Slide 4 : Independent study is a voluntary alternative to regular classroom instruction consistent with traditional curriculum and courses of study. It provides students with an alternative way to acquire the skills and knowledge they need to be productive citizens. After an assessment of the student’s academic record, an individualized course of study is agreed upon by the student and their instructor. A written agreement is created and signed by the student, their teacher, and the parent or legal guardian. Teachers are responsible for assuring that the student is progressing through the coursework with the goal of mastery of the subject. Students are responsible for meeting with the teachers and completing their assigned course work.
