MAA Programs : MAA Programs Professional Enhancement Program (PREP) Preparing Mathematicians to Educate Teachers (PMET) Supporting Assessment in Undergraduate Mathematics (SAUM) Project NExT Curriculum Foundations (CF) Project CUPM Curriculum Guidelines

Professional Enhancement Program (PREP) : Professional Enhancement Program (PREP) 6 workshops completed in 2001 9-11 more completed/planned for 2002 applications being accepted for 2003 Workshops are free and open to mathematicians and others Wide variety of topics, including *teaching college-level statistics and QL *being a department chair *mathematics for non-science students *preparing future secondary teachers

Preparing Mathematicians to Educate Teachers (PMET) : Preparing Mathematicians to Educate Teachers (PMET) Initiative to increase the capacity of college and university mathematical sciences faculties to support enhanced education of teachers Guided by the recommendations of The Mathematical Education of Teachers (CBMS, 2001) Oversubscribed workshops *ASU: May 2001 (Foley) *2002 Math Meeting (Ball, Bass, Dubinsky) *Summers 2002—2003 (Dubinsky, Ball, et al)

Supporting Assessment in Undergraduate Mathematics : Supporting Assessment in Undergraduate Mathematics Project supports faculty members and departments in efforts to assess student learning *within “blocks” of courses *within programs and departments MAA Notes #49 (1999) is being sent to 3,100 mathematics departments Workshop series at sectional and national meetings Case studies on assessment

Project NExT : Project NExT Professional development of beginning college faculty; funded by ExxonMobil NExT Fellows now number over 550 Network can serve as a resource for *intensely interested young faculty *dissemination of new curricula *advice about the needs of beginning college faculty

Curriculum Foundations Project : Curriculum Foundations Project MAA Subcommittee on Curriculum Renewal Across the First Two Years (CRAFTY) significant input from partner/client disciplines series of invitational workshops (Fall 1999-Spring 2001) interdisciplinary curriculum conference (November 2001)

CUPM Curriculum Guidelines : CUPM Curriculum Guidelines Analysis and recommendations for the undergraduate mathematics curriculum MAA Report Mathematics and Mathematical Sciences in 2010:What should students know Inclusion of introductory mathematics courses, as well as programs for the major Writing team funded by NSF First draft: Summer 2002 Focus groups: Mathfest 2002 Second draft: Fall 2002 Open discussions: 2003 Math Meetings Final draft: Summer 2003 Public release: Fall 2003
