What is People Development? : What is People Development? People development is the theory of focusing on developing the strengths and weaknesses of the people running the organization.
It aims to encourage retention within an organization by encouraging the members to develop their own attributes while working towards the organization’s goals.
People Development in AIESEC : People Development in AIESEC In AIESEC, there are four main deliverables when it comes to People Development:
Competency Development
Individual Learning Plan
Mentorship
Career Planning

Competency Development : Competency Development How do we manage
Competency Development
in our LC?
Competency Development : Competency Development Make someone’s Job Description to manage the LC’s competency development (if you can afford to have a team, do that too)
Introduce competency development at one of your LC’s meetings, going over the benefits and why we develop them
Assess your LC’s competencies
Take those assessments, and create a plan of what kind of competency development training sessions you will have in this quarter.
Competency Development : Competency Development 5. At the end of the quarter, take another assessment of your LC.
Review the assessments from the previous quarter and decide if there has been any improvement in your LC’s competencies.
Make a new plan for competency development training for the next quarter.

Global Mindset
Register yourself on CouchSurfing.org and host a foreigner travelling from a foreign country to Canada. Discuss with them the differences in your cultures and how these differences could be beneficial. Try to understand their points of view, no matter what they are.

Individual Learning Plan (ILP) : Individual Learning Plan (ILP)
Individual Learning Plan (ILP) : Individual Learning Plan (ILP) The Individual Learning Plan is the tailor-made cycle of education that each AIESEC member should be participating in throughout the duration of his or her AIESEC Career.
It is a form that, at the beginning of the TR stage, a member fills out about his or her plan for what kind of learning they will participate in for that quarter. The main focuses are competencies/soft skills learning and functional processes. The member should be able to have access to his or her ILP at any time to make changes to the plan.
Individual Learning Plan (ILP) : Individual Learning Plan (ILP) ILP ACTIVITY
Write down what you got on your last competency assessment on a piece of paper and which competency you think you should work on in this quarter.
Stick this piece of paper on your bedroom door. Research activities to do on MyAIESEC.net and plan to complete an activity each week that focuses on developing that competency.

Mentorship : Mentorship
Mentorship : Mentorship Mentorship is a “one to one, non-short-term relationship, in which mentees are supported by their mentors in finding their own path for growth and development. It involves helping mentees to learn rather than teaching them”.
Mentorship : Mentorship The benefits of mentorship are:
Mentor feels his/her experience and expertise matters to the organization
Mentee gets much-needed guidance in the organization from mentor
AIESEC gets up-to-date information on mentee’s plans and can pipeline accordingly
Mentorship : Mentorship How do we manage
Mentorship
in our LC?
Mentorship : Mentorship Make someone’s Job Description to manage the LC’s mentorship program (if you can afford to have a team, do that too)
Make a plan of how you want your timeline for mentorship to occur in your LC.
Send out applications to experienced members to be a mentor (they can be a mentor and have their own other JD as well).
Choose your mentor team and give them a training session on how to be a mentor.
Mentorship : Mentorship Match your mentors with the inexperienced members of your LC according to common links (degree, personality, interests, activities, etc.)
Have your mentors host meetings with your mentees every week to discuss their life – in AIESEC, in school and in their personal life
Use this structure for the entire semester and use your mentors to help give input on the ILP. Meet with your mentors every week to ensure everything is going as planned.
Mentorship : Mentorship MENTORSHIP ACTIVITY
For your transition, it’s obvious that you are a mentor for your incoming VP. However, go beyond mentoring him or her on just AIESEC work. Research on MyAIESEC.net on how to be a mentor and start having mentor meetings to discuss his or her life.

Career Planning : Career Planning
Career Planning : Career Planning Did you know that there is a life after AIESEC?
Career planning is extremely important both in life and in AIESEC. Many members have no idea what they want to do when they leave university, so AIESEC helps with coming up with a plan.
Career Planning : Career Planning Career Planning is something that should be done with a mentor or leader of a team.
There should be set dates where they discuss the member’s career and aligns the member with steps he/she can take now to ensure that this career will be attainable after graduation and after AIESEC.
You can even involve alumni in the member’s field in order to facilitate the member’s professional contacts and advice.
