Slide 2 : Marguerite Carstairs 2010 Active English 2 Cloncurry is an Outback Mining Town

Slide 3 : Marguerite Carstairs 2010 Active English 3 This is the street I lived in in Cloncurry. It was a 25 minute walk to school From here every morning, in blistering heat dodging dogs.

Slide 4 : Marguerite Carstairs 2010 Active English 4 Cloncurry is where gold is mined in open cut mines. A mining town is set up And the miners live in the towns and travel to work in a company bus.

Slide 5 : Marguerite Carstairs 2010 Active English 5 Mines use huge trucks to cart the ore to the processing plant. See the size of the Car and the truck to appreciate the large size.

Slide 6 : Marguerite Carstairs 2010 Active English 6 The ore is processed, and the end result is piled in large piles called Slag Piles. Here a moving belt transports the ore to the crusher.

Slide 7 : Marguerite Carstairs 2010 Active English 7 The large crane lifts the ore to the Processing plant to be processed for gold. The crushed ore is mixed with arsenic and the gold is extracted from the rock.

Slide 10 : Marguerite Carstairs 2010 Active English 10 I traveled with Glen, the Uniting Church Flying Minister who travels a large Area in his Cessna, to provide church services for those that wish to attend Church.

Slide 11 : Marguerite Carstairs 2010 Active English 11 This is the town of Bulia where we went for Sunday Service. There was only One attendant, but the service still took place.

Slide 12 : Marguerite Carstairs 2010 Active English 12 The towns water supply from a large tank. Much water is collected when it rains In Summer, and also some water comes from Underground .

Slide 14 : Marguerite Carstairs 2010 Active English 14 Local Members from the Lions Club work to raise money for the Community. This was a barbecue run nationally by the Lions Club.

Slide 15 : Marguerite Carstairs 2010 Active English 15 Laying the Wreath at the Anzac Ceremony on the 25th April to remember The soldiers who served their country during the War.

Slide 16 : Marguerite Carstairs 2010 Active English 16 Three minutes silence to remember the fallen soldiers. Then the Reveille is Sounded and the flag is lowered to half mast.

Slide 17 : Marguerite Carstairs 2010 Active English 17 The Outback Races are a highlight, and popular event. All go to have a bet on the horses as they race down the dusty track

Slide 25 : Marguerite Carstairs 2010 Active English 25 My vegetable Garden at the Cloncurry School. I grew beans, and pumpkins successfully from seeds. Because it was hot, the Garden had to be hand watered Everyday.

Slide 27 : Marguerite Carstairs 2010 Active English 27 Booroola in the Northern Territory was a mining area that had to be reached by small plane From Darwin I went on a tour of the Mines, and they Dressed us in the safety clothes and boots, the miners wore

Slide 28 : Marguerite Carstairs 2010 Active English 28 This is the Mine area of BHP Iron Ore Mine in Newman in West Australia. The Mining town is set up when the mine starts, and closes when the ore runs out
