Jan 2003 - Sep 2006
I completed my BA degree in the faculty of Hadith, Islamic University in 1995 and then finished my MPhil degree in 2007 at the University of the Western Cape, South Africa. My MA research deals with the 18th Century Yemeni scholar, Muhammad b. 'Ali al-Shawkani. I translated the first chapter of his work Qatru'l wali 'ala hadith al-wali (The Later Clarification on the Hadith of the Wali) together with a critical introduction for which I was awarded cum laude. Currently I am busy pursuing my Ph D degree and my topic deals with mushkil al-hadith. I am researching Ibn Hajar al-'Asqalani's method of resolving mushkil al-hadith in Fath al-Bari. I have recently established the Shawkani Hadith Research Foundation through which I hope to encourage beneficial contemporary research on hadith studies in general.
