I am native British English and living in Spain, so I understand the struggles of learning a language!
My methodology is for the learners to begin with receptive understanding of the new items (listening & reading), then later move on to productive use (speaking & writing)
I like to involve alot of speaking and role play, as I feel this skill is undermined and alot of students have a higher proficiency in reading & writing than speaking or understanding a native speaker.
