About Sammo

Sammo is a volunteering Chinese teacher for online learning at LCIC program. Why he feels learning Chinese is important? It is because Asia will be the trading trend of this century. Knowing the language and its culture is the key to the personal success and world peace. The LCIC, which stands for Learning Chinese in “China,” integrates the immersion learning and proven scientific and psychological methodology for fast learning and absorbing of Chinese. It represents the natural learning habitat of a child. We put students in all native-speakers’ environment to imitate the psychological effect to learners’ sensual input. Combining these factors in one application, no wonder LCIC learning efficiency is rated high among similar courses in the market. The statistics of the past shows that an average student who has gone through the LCIC program starts to communicate in Chinese in 10 class days.

What is LCIC program?
The LCIC program is a Chinese learning program sponsored by Foreign Languages of UC of Sina.com and a group of teaching volunteers. The LCIC program’s teaching media is English and the course is specially designed for English-speaking people to learn at beginner, intermediate or advanced level. The course curriculum is similar to the ones used at Confucius Institute, which is a non-profit public institution that aims to promote Chinese language and culture and support local Chinese teaching internationally; the headquarters is in Beijing and is under the Chinese governmental agent, Office of Chinese Language Council International. The LCIC program, however, is not affiliated with or part of Confucius Institute.

The LCIC program has several advantages in learning Chinese.
1. It integrates with the Internet technology so that the learner does not have to be physically set foot in China and hence it saves her/him expenses for accommodation, travelling, etc. All learning is done from the comfort of the home or café or office, with a computer or laptop and an Internet connection.
2. The program purposely put the learner in an environment that most of the UC community members are bilingual, speaking both Chinese and English, and, most importantly, are local Chinese. This, as we believe, is very essential for culture exposure to the learner. The language learning must combine with the culture to make complete the learning experience and nothing is better than the method of immersion education.
3. Did I tell you the program is FREE? Yes, it is 100% free with no catch (we never ask for your credit card). Of course you have to get your own PC or laptop, headset/microphone, optional webcam, and uninterrupted Internet access. We are a group of volunteers mostly in Beijing who take deep interest in teaching people from the West about our beautiful language and culture. We do not get any monetary rewards for our volunteering.
4. Because of LCIC’s uniqueness in deploying new method of teaching and the placement in language immersion environment, the students who have gone through our learning program can speak Chinese in 10 days on an average.

What are the hours of classes?
Currently ACE is offering about 2-3 hours of lessons per week plus some tutoring time by assigning you a teaching assistant to correct your pronunciation in a one-on-one private session.

As a volunteering Chinese and cultural teacher in UC of Sina.com, I made a series of workshop to help students to overcome the obstacle of the language learning. Why do I care to volunteer my free time when I could have been out there playing golf? Because I believe world peace starts from mutual understanding. How much do you know about China, its language and culture? Yes, you!
