Mr. Brakman is a Professional Engineer and a Certified Professional Traffic Operations Engineer with over 40 years of experience in all aspects of transportation planning, and engineering
His experience includes advancing complex capital and operational projects from initial conception through construction. His transit experience includes the direction and preparation of preliminary designs, feasibility studies, environmental impact studies, and alternatives analyses. Prior to joining Manhattan College, Mr. Brakman was Manager of Transportation Systems for Jacobs Engineering in NY and NJ. Before that he served as Regional Supervisor of Transportation Planning and Development for the NYC office of the New York State Department of Transportation (NYSDOT). Mr. Brakman is a Fellow and Past President of the Institute of Transportation Engineers (ITE), Met Section, and 2008 recipient of the Ivor Wisepart award for “Significant Contribution to the Field of Transportation Engineering”. He was recently a technical reviewer of the Institute of Transportation Engineers Recommended Practice:”Context Sensitive Solutions in Designing Major Urban Thoroughfares for Walkable Communities”. His most recent professional publications include “ITS at the Hudson Valley Traffic Management Center”, for the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers and “Roundabout Retrofit” for the ITE. His most recent presentation was “Evacuation Planning” for the ITE Upstate NY Regional Meeting in the Fall of 2009 in Canandaigua, NY
