With a city like Chandigarh waking up to internet technology in education sector, the IT Companies here have much to offer. WizIQ, the latest offering of e-learning solutions provider- authorGEN is eyed to make learning easier.
Launched in April, the teaching portal has got as many as 10,000 users and has been registering a growth of about 400-500% in visitors’ traffic. “WizIQ is a teaching platform for creating community of teachers and students online by offering real time environment to allow students and teachers to interact,” Harbir Khurana, MD, authorGEN technologies told FE.
The authorGEN technologies started in 2002 and operate offices in Raleigh, North Carolina and Chandigarh, India. Khurana added, "Online tutoring is also picking up in India where the tutors teach students in the US and other countries. Through WizIQ, we create a virtual classroom equipped to utilise two-way audio, text chat, whiteboard, power point and PDF document, in sharing or independently. Since we offer all the tools and technologies for free to the teachers, it is upto them to decide what to teach and what they charge for doing so. The idea is to boost the income levels of the teachers as there is no rating mechanism for online teaching. The teachers can organise sessions for their respective subjects as well as retain old students."
The company has found users for this technology in India, USA , Singapore, Australia and South Africa. Various education bloggers are also being involved in promoting the portal worldwide.
"We will be soon be offering advanced features on WizIQ which the teachers will be able to subscribe for optionally. Teachers can build a profile, a learning network and expand their earning potential, while students get help in tough subjects and create their own learning networks too," he said.
Then authorGEN technologies raised an angel round of investment from Band of Angels, Delhi in January and recently got strategic investment from Educomp Solutions.
Khurana shared, "Educomp has acquired a 51% stake in our company. This investment will enable authorGEN and Educomp to leverage each other’s competencies in the area of online teaching through key technology and market reach. Since Educomp is planning to provide training to about five lakh teachers, we can also pool in our technology and expand our market."
