What is Al-Isti'athah?
To say: Shaytan is the accursed one
To say: In the name of Allah, the Most Merciful
To say: I seek refuge from shaytan and his madness
To say: I seek refuge in Allah from the accursed shaytan
What is the true meaning of Al-Isti'athah?
I seek refuge and fortification from Allah my Lord, against Shaytan the accursed, that he confuse me while I recite, or that he should make me go astray, to destruction and misery.
I seek refuge from Allah my Lord, against Shaytan the accursed
I seek refuge against Shaytan the accursed, repelled and banished one.
Shaytan is also known as Iblis or the devil, may Allah's curse be upon him, aameen
What is your proof that you should seek refuge in Allah from the accursed shaytain?
From the The Quran
Hadith from the Prophet (salla allahu alaihi wa salaam)
From the hadith reported that says: When the prophet (salla allahu alihi wa salaam) would stand up at night to pray, he would begin with Takbir, then say: I take refuge with Allah, the All- Hearing, the All-Knowing, from the accursed shaytan -- from his pride, his poetry and his madness. (sunan compilers)
From the hadith reported that says: When the prophet (salla allahu alihi wa salaam) would stand up at night to pray, he would begin with Basmalah, then say: I take refuge with Allah, the All- Seeing, the All-Hearing, from the accursed shaytan -- from his pride, his poetry and his madness. When should you say Al-Isti'athah according to the rulings?
When leaving the house, entering the bathroom, getting angry
entering the bathroom, walking in the suq, evil thoughts
before reading more than one chapter of quraan, becoming angry, having body aches and pains
before reading even one chapter or more of Qur`aan, becoming angry, or having evil thoughts
