Engaging students in e-learning environments: Why synchronous tools are vital
E-learning programs are easy to implement. Some slides, a few PDFs, readings, a discussion forum, and a test or two, and you have yourself an online class, right? Wrong. Recent research and plenty of anecdotal evidence tells us that without at least occasional face-to-face, synchronous class sessions, e-learning is more about going through the motions that actually learning anything, electronically or otherwise.
