Math game development: Communities and networks 

About the Class

Mathematics educators need to create excellent learning games, which is a hard enough task. But even more challenging is the task of helping everybody - millions of kids, parents, teachers - design or remix their own games. Communities, peer groups and cognitive tools such as taxonomies of games can make these two tasks possible and sustainable.

Maria Droujkova has more than fifteen years of experience developing programs and courses for helping people learn mathematics and engaging in original, thought-provoking studies. Maria researches and develops face-to-face and online learning environments. She has designed and theorized about learning experiences for diverse learners and situations: early algebra games for pre-K groups of children; Math Clubs and online experiences for family-centered communities; classes and seminars for k-20 and graduate students; and seminars, workshops and classes for pre-service and in-service teachers. She is the founder of multiple online educational communities, including Natural Math network and Math 2.0 interest group, and an active member of many online educator networks. Maria has MS in Applied Mathematics from Tulane University and PhD in Mathematics Education from NCSU. Her studies have been supported by grants, and published and presented nationally and internationally.
