About the Class

Educators tend to balk at the thought of using Facebook in their practice, yet if used safely and thoughtfully the ubiquitous social networking site can work very well. This prsentation will look at how to set up and monitor groups and pages on Facebook as well as the knotty issue of friending learners and participants will be able to download a suggested safe use pilicy and briefing paper looking at how we need to be going to where our learners are - and not wondering why they won't come to us!

Language of instruction: English

Keywords: education, facebook, social networking

Profile Summary

I've worked in education for hundreds of years, initially as an Adult Basic Skills tutor (teaching literacy, numeracy, basic ICT and ESOL sessions) then as a Teacher Educator specialising in English Language. I now work as a Learning Technologist in FE and HE but also run iBex Education, where I run sessions on WizIQ and in Second Life looking at mobile learning, web 2.0 in education, virtual worlds in teaching, learning and assessment and the use of Facebook in education.

I also run regular and ON DEMAND sessions looking at linguistic concepts such as English language acquisition, language and gender, orthography (grammar, spelling and punctuation) and conversational English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL).

Taster sessions are free, but I do charge for requested sessions and courses, group and one to one tuition.
