A quick look at how the vitual world 'Second Life' can be used in Further and Higher Education. Be it through in-world tutorials, art and design projects, Initial Teacher Education, language and literature or STEM subjects, this session will suggest some educational uses and tips on how to deliver teaching and learning effectively in virtual worlds.

Profile Summary

I've worked in education for hundreds of years, initially as an Adult Basic Skills tutor (teaching literacy, numeracy, basic ICT and ESOL sessions) then as a Teacher Educator specialising in English Language. I now work as a Learning Technologist in FE and HE but also run iBex Education, where I run sessions on WizIQ and in Second Life looking at mobile learning, web 2.0 in education, virtual worlds in teaching, learning and assessment and the use of Facebook in education.

I also run regular and ON DEMAND sessions looking at linguistic concepts such as English language acquisition, language and gender, orthography (grammar, spelling and punctuation) and conversational English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL).

Taster sessions are free, but I do charge for requested sessions and courses, group and one to one tuition.
