About the Class

Dr. Mark Winegar's new book is a call to action and opens with the following paragraphs:

"The cry of crisis in education sounds like a bad cliche. Its been made so often one feels like the shepherd boy who cried wolf once too often but our situation is dire unless we respond with curiosity, enthusiasm, and imagination. Fortunately we are good at that!

Gutenberg's printing press caused a paradigm shift in education and society in the 15th century by making information available to the masses. The Roman Catholic church failed to recognize the significance of the printing press and lost its dominance over Europe. Our institutions find themselves in the same situation today.

We are facing a digital tsunami unless we learn to use the Internet and Web 2.0 applications to our best advantage. We need to transform our educational system to preserve it. There is much to gain but change is so easy to resist."

The book offers a menu of Web 2.0 teaching strategies to consider when planning your courses.

I am looking forward to attending this session, Dr. Mark !! A key sentence , which is a big problem that blocks our way, CHANGE IS SO EASY TO RESIST !! Though technology will never wait for anyone who is still thinking whether we should go on for this change or not, we still have many people, colleagues, ..resisting change !!!

Angela Maiers has some great solutions for teachers or other stakeholders who resist technology\;

I fully agree with your statements. Despite the cuts in school budgets education authorities can revolutionised the whole system and maximise the return to tax payers, society and most importantly students, by embracing the e-learning and digital progress now at their doorstep should I say desktop.

Hi everyone!

Here is something to think about before the conference. How are you using mobile technology in your teaching?

Hello Dr. Mark,
I have helped teachers weave into their course delivery the use of iPads for student use in researching in areas of Aged Care. this was used in conjunction with a Moodle platform.
Interesting results from both teachers and students.
We;re also investigating the use of mobile devices for uploading artefacts directly to an eportfolios from the device - an interesting case study within the EpCop Mooc at:
