Today, rather than grammer-translation method of teaching, direct or natural method of teaching is proved successful. It enables learners, to learning through conversation, discussion and reading. English is learnt as one acquires mother tongue. Establishes a direct contact between thought and expression. More audio-visual aids can be used for better understanding of the subject.

Hi, Benjamin. Its nice to have your public class and and I am definitely attending. TESOL Talk is rather wide, please narrow it down, in your opinion - Google and ... I'd rather that you bring some specific tactics/hints in teaching communications class, i.e. how to make students really talk, though this is different from class to class. thanks.

Hello Harry and thanks for commenting. TESOL Talk is designed to be an open forum with the intention of facilitating topics of interest that originate from the attendees themselves. Two days ago (see my comment below), I brought up the topic of Google and TESOL (I know, it's broad) with the hopes of generating a discussion around a general theme. If there is something more specific you'd like to cover, by all means feel free to mention it beforehand by posting a comment to WizIQ and bring it up during the live session tomorrow. Our sessions are not very structured, and I do not have an agenda when beginning our talks; I leave it up to the attendees to drive the discourse by choosing the specific topics that we end up "uncovering". I have an opinion, as we all do, and will share it throughout, but these sessions are more about the attendees' opinions than they are about what I think.

I look forward to having you in the session!

Let us know what your initial reaction is to Google by replying to the comments below. This live session is an open forum, so a microphone and the will to discuss topics you are interested in will go a long way in creating a more dynamic learning experience for everyone! Again, the topic is Google and teaching English to students of other languages (TESOL).

I am thinking about discussing GooglePlus and English language teaching and learning for this session. What do you think?

TESOL is an abbreviation for Teaching English to Students of Other Languages. I use this term to cover both educators who teach English as a foreign language and educators who teach English as a second language. If you are referring to the TOEFL exam (http://www.ets.org/toefl/), which stands for Test of English as a Foreign Language, this is an instrument used to measure the English proficiency of English language learners. TESOL Talk is an open forum for those interested in teaching English to English language learners (i.e., teachers, trainers, etc.). Hope that helps. :)

Benjamin Stewart's educational philosophy is to facilitate learners in becoming more apt to form valid, reliable, and unbias arguments, provide innovative solutions to real-life problems, make decisions that resolve cognitive conflict by developing understandings through a difference of opinion or perspective, and create innovative ways of communicating with others. His role is to move learners from being dependent, to independent, to interdependent individuals who are not afraid to take chances, share their successes and failures with others, and are concerned for the well-being of not only themselves, but for others as well.
