About the Class

Osteomyelitis the silent killer.. an acute or chronic bone infection. Symptoms can include: Bone pain; Fever; General discomfort, uneasiness, or malaise....Osteomyelitis simply means an infection of the bone or bone marrow. It can be subclassified on the basis of the causative organism (pyogenic bacteria or mycobacteria), the route, duration and anatomic location of the infection.

The silent killer part of this story is found in the facts that Pain is not always present and may infections can go unnoticed for decades. It is opportunistic and can kill its host.

We will look at the available treatments with antibiotics and with bactophages now known as "phage therapy". This is a collaborative class and every student has something to share. Thus every student needs a microphone and headset.
