About the Class

This session would focus on the metabolic changes in diabetes mellitus. Diabetes Mellitus is one of the debilitating diseases which are afflicting populations across the globe. The metabolic alterations in Diabetes Mellitus are important in order to understand the nature and course of the disease and to follow any diet plan. The major nutrients whose metabolism is altered in uncontrolled diabetes mellitus are carbohydrates, proteins and fats. In this discussion we would deal with the normal metabolism or pathway of utilization of carbohydrates, proteins and fats and how they are altered in diabetes mellitus thus bringing in various symptoms of the disease. These symptoms help in easy prognosis of the condition and thus help in adapting better treatment modalities. Following an effective dietary plan will also help in better control of the condition.
