This is Class #2 of 12 Lectures.
In this class we study how rheological data, such as frequency sweeps at constant temperature, are influenced by Tg (T alpha) and vice-verse, and why we ought to re-analyze G'(w) and G"(w) data at constant (T-Tg) and not at constant T. We show that since Tg and Talpha are varying with Molecular weight and frequency itself, most data are left uncorrected in the terminal flow region leading to somewhat questionable determination of the fundamental rheological parameters. We propose an interpretation of the similarities and differences between Tg and Talpha in terms of the interactions between conformers composing the entanglement network.

Profile Summary

After many years in Corporate Research, in both experimental and theoretical polymer physics, I have recently started an academic career as a Fulbright Scholar, Marie-Curie Awardee and HDR of the University of UPPA (Pau, France). My intense review work of the field for the last 5 years has led me to write a book and conduct a series of courses and lectures on a new way to consider polymer physics. I hope that my contribution to the understanding of entanglements will benefit processing of polymers in many novel ways. Finally, my long time desire to teach on line what I have learned, from my own experience, is made possible by the recent advances in web communication technology.
