About the Presenter:
Ludmila Smirnova, Ph. D. is Associate Professor of Education at Mount St. Mary College in Newburgh, N.Y., where for the past 10 years she has taught courses in Curricular Planning, Methods of Teaching and Teaching with Technology. She has become increasingly recognized for her leadership in the application of emerging Internet technologies to instruction. Ludmila leads numerous workshops on the application of Smart Technologies and Web 2.0 tools in college and primary/secondary classrooms. Prior to this, she was professor of education at Volgograd State Pedagogical University (Russia), where she also served as Dean of the School of Foreign Languages. During her 25-year career there, Ludmila was known for her reintroduction of Montessori education in southern Russia and the design of innovative themed “charter” schools. Her prolific publications include books, chapters, papers and conference presentations world-wide. She is a partner, co-designer and co-facilitator of the Moodle for Teachers workshops at Integrating Technology for Active Lifelong Learning (IT4ALL) .

About the Presentation:
In The Role of Feedback, Peer and Self-Evaluation in Building Professional Competence of a Future Teacher, Dr. Ludmila Smirnova will share the experience of using peer, self-evaluation, and other non traditional ways of assessment in teacher training courses within a technology-enhanced educational context.

Welcome to the annual connecting online live online conference (CO11). You are cordially invited to participate at the live online conference on the weekend of Feb 4-6 2011.


The conference will be of interest to educators, administrators, students, and community members who value the importance of integrating technology into the curriculum to improve instruction and learning. Online learning involves various skills on the part of the instructor and learner. These include social and communication skills, social networking, independent learning strategies, critical and higher order thinking skills, creativity, and effective online and face-to-face facilitation. In addition, there are may challenges that the educators, administrators, students, and community members face.


The CO11 will be conducted on IT4ALL Moodle with the presentations on WiZiQ through the Moodle.


The themes for the presentations are:



  1. Connecting Online to Improve Instruction and Learning: Online Learning and Instructional Experience

  2. Experiences with technology in face-to-face and online classes. What worked and what didn't work for you?

  3. How do you use technology to promote and sustain your online workshops, consultation, and communities of practice and learning?

  4. Research conducted on e-learning, blended online learning, and blended learning.

  5. Reviewing or promoting books on integrating technology into the classroom, e-learning, blended learning, and blended online learning.

  6. Challenges administrators, instructors, students, and community members face in connecting online.

The leading team at IT4ALL are: Dr. Ludmila Smirnova (professor at St. Mary's College in New York State, writer, experienced presenter and online facilitator), Dr. Nellie Deutsch (a Canadian instructional designer and curriculum development leader, who has been teaching English and integrating technology into her classes, and presenting, researching, writing, and providing consultation on Moodle for teachers. WebQuests, blended learning, and e-portfolios), Dariem Garcés (Moodle Developer, creator of the WebQuest plugin for Moodle, and expert in installing virtual learning environments), and other educators & technology experts volunteer their time and make up Integrating Technology for Active Lifelong Learning (IT4ALL).
