About the Class
Globalization, the Internet and modern communications has changed International Law and Treaties globally. Issues such a territorial waters and mutual defense Treaties have been replaced by Fair Trade Agreements, Environmental, Clean Air and Water Protocols. In the United States the Executive Agreement has taken the place of the Treaty as the primary form of International Agreements between nation states. The reasons are many and include the increasing complexity of such instruments and “pork barrel politics”. The numbers are amazing with hundreds of Executives agreements signed each year and only a handful of Treaties seeing the light of day.
The fact that treaties are executed between Nation States means that there are very few J.D positions available. Then when one considers that the highest level of pay for Federal Employees is about $155,000 where is the incentive for the Law School Graduate to major in International Law and Treaties? The smart student who is looking at a $250,000 Student Loan to repay is going to pick something like Personal Injury or Product Liability where the starting salaries for the bright graduate provides sufficient funds for the timely retirement of the outstanding loans.
This Class will meet once weekly online for one hour for our primary session with a second optional open microphone round table discussion later in the week. The class will run for 12 to 16 weeks depending on how fast we cover the material. The cost of this class includes all the necessary texts which are provided to the student in PDF. Students who take my Classes and pass the final Examination receive College Credit in the form of CEU or CATS Points. As always the first few classes are free and if you can’t get to a computer in time for our classes, remember that all my classes are available for viewing the day after they are given.
The first class or two are free so that you can evaluate it. Like most College Professors I have a family and a home so I need to earn a living and what we charge for a class is less than you would pay to see a movie in the local theater, $19.95 per week. Join me as we explore the world of International Relations, Treaty Law and the United Nations.
While we will be including some specific training in Indigenous Issues, we will be excluding “Human Rights” as this body of law requires a class of its own.
