The motto of the U.S. is "E Pluribus Unum - Out of many one." However, can the opposite in the U.S. happen - "Out of one - many?" The Civil War was not the only time states wanted to secede from the U.S. There i s the Alaskan Independent Party that would seriously consider having Alaska as an independent nation.
