About the Class

This is a continuation of the popular "How 2 WizIQ" series. We will continue the tutorials for individual feature use but that will be indexed for your use via YouTube videos. Look in the comments at this original article for the location of said index. This class series will change its focus to helping first time teachers (usually teens) to decide how to begin sharing and teaching online. This effort to empower all to teach fulfills another goal for some of us at WizIQ to begin a new EDUPUNK movement.

I have always said "Everyone can and SHOULD teach". It is a natural function of living in community. At WizIQ it is possible for all to try their hand at teaching. I have encouraged many to do so and will continue to challenge all to participate as equals in our learning community.

However, I have discovered that it is not so simple for these brave young people to just jump into the water and start swimming. Therefor, the previous series of "How 2 Wiziq" will now be adjusted to accomodate the young people who would teach.

Weekly we will cover 4 main areas of teaching online and particularly teen issues associated with growing into a leadership role among their peers. The general topics covered shall be:

  • The features and uses of our VC (virtual classroom)

  • The WizIQ community and portal... how things work and where stuff is at

  • The role of a teen teacher... do you have to pretend or can you be yourself and help others?

  • Interpersonal skills for the begginer level of adulthood... how to deal with others, even the evil ones who show up

Every Sunday through November 14th we will be reviewing and analyzing the important discoveries by Sugata Mitra.

All may attend who wish to become better citizens at our learning community. We will also conduct short practice classes for all to experiment with and share observations and feedback.

Profile Summary

We do not need "them", we only need each other.

This group of pilgrims called "The Edupunk" are seeking a new paradigm for online learning. We hold to several core principals:
1. All can teach, all should teach
2. Mistakes and willing to risk mistakes are much prefered over the false goal of perfection.
3. Fun activities and gaming are not only more engaging, they are the key to a sustainable model for learning... anything.
4. Live interaction and group activities create the basis for deep and experiential learning.
5. Accountability and competition is the basis of our community. We build and only associate with leaders who can recognize that they and every member have knowledge to share.
