Emphasis of the lecture will be to concentrate more on the basic concepts of rotational motion. The various aspects with which it will deal are :

  • Why rotational motion?
  • Importance of concept of centre of mass – a brief discussion of centre of mass with some examples.
  • Rigid body – its description.
  • General motion of rigid body.
  • Tools for describing rotational motion : Torque, angular momentum, moment of inertia.
  • Law of conservation of angular momentum with examples
  • Numerical examples.
