From birth to adulthood
You already know my name. Let’s turn a blind eye on my age. What’s important is that I was born in the Federal Republic of Germany of Italian parents. That means: grown up in Germany, attended German schools only (until High School diploma), then an apprenticeship and eventually a job as an employee in the Controlling department for one year.
My language education
Since I was a child, my „skilfulness“ in foreign languages became clear. Although we spoke only the Abruzzi dialect at home, it was surprisingly easy for me to learn German, since nursery. To be honest, I got through quite well in this language, considering the fact that in 1986 I won the “Scheffelpreis”, a literature award for excellent knowledge in German language.
Then, year by year, I also learned English and French. This made me discover my passion for foreign languages. I even learned Italian (the official language) all by myself: armed with a German/Italian grammar book and thanks to a very hard study of Italian books I managed to graduate in trade and economics.
I suppose this was meant to be a kind of mistake, because two years later I passed the exam as translator and interpreter.
Well, since then I’ve been working in this field: I began as a translator and now I also teach German conversation, German and English………. really cool, isn’t it?
