About the Class

Introduction to Hegel's Philosophy of Religion. We will focus on the introductory texts in the Encyclopedia. How does Hegel view Religion? Religion deals with representational thinking and social practices, yet it is expressive of the Absolute as Subjectivity. God is seen as a Person and no longer as the Spinozistic Substance. What does that mean? In a way Hegel views his entire system of philosophy as a 'proof for the existence of God'- what does that mean? We will also deal very briefly with the Anselmian Argument for the existence of God.

Language of instruction: English
