About the Class
Hello, I am Biswaroop Roy Chowdhury!
Shuffle a pack of playing cards for me and if I get one minute to look through them all, I will tell you the order of the cards, forwards or backwards. Name any card, and Ill tell you where it appears in the sequence. Shuffle twenty packs of cards, name any card, and Ill tell you where it appears in the sequence. Shuffle twenty packs of cards for me, mix them altogether into one huge pile if you like, and Ill do the same. I can memorize anything. Give me fifty telephone numbers-Ill recall them faster than you can find them in a directory. Write down a random sequence of ones and noughts, make it a thousand if theyll fit in the page and I can read them back to you from memory. I can learn names, words, pictures, poems but ask me if I have a Photographic memory, and my answer will be an emphatic No, In fact if by photographic you mean remembering something without even having to think about it, then mine is the most un-photographic memory.
What I have is a memory that Ive learnt how to use. It works because I make it work; its not trickery, not a coincidence, but at the same time its not some mysterious gift I was born with. I just decided that I was going to start remembering things, to start using my mind and benefiting from its full potential and power.
Now I am a proud owner of proud owner of a Guinness Book Record in memory. Even more importantly, I had made a crucial discovery. Faced with information to learn, the memory doesnt work unless you make it work. But, if you can get to the grips with how your mind works and make a decision to use it, the results are phenomenal. We all have at our disposal a living computer more powerful than anything created in an electronics factory, a miraculous machine capable of making more connections than there are atoms in the universe. The aim of the Mnemonic pen is to show you how to take it out of its box (mind) and start putting it into use.
The Mysterious Brain
Imagine going out and buying the most powerful computer in the world. You stagger home with it, hoping that it will do everything for you, even write your letters. Unfortunately theres no instruction manual and you dont know any thing about computers. So, it just sits there on the kitchen table, staring back at you. Plug it in, fiddle around with the keyboard, walk around it, kick it, and remember how much money you put into purchasing it. Try as much as you can but you cant get the stupid thing to work. Its much the same with your brain.
The brain is more powerful than any computer, far better than anything money can buy. Scientists barely understand how a mere 10 per cent of it works. They know, however, that it is capable of storing and recalling enormous amounts of information. If, as is now widely accepted, it contains an estimated 1012 neurons, the number of possible combinations between them (which is the way in which scientists think information is stored) is greater than the number of particles in the universe. For most of us, however, the memory sits up there unused, like the computer on the kitchen table.
There are various ways of getting it to work, some based on theory, some on practical. Through my lectures and presentations you are about to experience, is a method that I have developed, independently, over the last eleven years. Techniques are based on the science called Mnemonics.
