About the Class

'Out' is one of the most frequently used particles/prepositions in phrasal verbs. It combines with hundreds of distinct verbs, most of which express verbs of motion. Usually, 'out' is used spatially to express the concept of an object moving 'out' of a container. But even when phrasal verbs with 'out' are used metaphorically, we can still see a spatial movement - if you know how to look - (making the verb much easier to understand). Of course the only way to see spatial movement in metaphors is to understand the concept of trajectors and landmarks (a very simple concept: see my introductory lesson). In this lesson you will learn 7 different ways of using OUT. With this knowledge you will be able to 'work out' the meaning of hundreds of different phrasal verbs. My aim is to teach you the logic that lies behind phrasal verbs because this makes more sense than learning them one by one. If you wish to take part in this lesson, please see my introduction session first so that you can understand the concept of trajectors and landmarks. Once you have done the lesson and fully grasped the concepts, you will then be able to do online tests to measure your understanding.
