About the Class

In spoken English, one of the areas where we have to be careful about, is pronunciation. English is a peculiar language in which we don''t have one to one correspondence between spelling and pronunciation. The same letter is not pronounced alike in all the places it occurs. Also, there are many silent letters. The spelling shows something, but the pronunciation is entirely different. Then there are many foreign words which found their place in English. Their pronunciation is again tricky. Do you know that with the 26letters in the English alphabet, we can make as many as 44 sounds? Once you know what these sounds are and how they are pronounced, your difficulty in pronunciation will come to an end. Come, let''s explore the spellings and pronunciations of some of the commonly mispronounced words. In today''s class we will concentrate on the vowel sounds. Let us see the 20 different sounds we produce out of the 5 vowels. You will get enough examples and exposure to these vowels.
