About the Class:
Math 2.0 interest group information
Math 2.0 is a catch-all phrase for doing mathematics with web 2.0 technologies. The interest group includes researchers, education practitioners, technology enablers, parents and kids working on relevant research and development projects. The group communicates through members' blogs, nings and wikis. We also have several group hubs:
* a wiki with the current communication/project page.
* an email group
* a Twitter hashtag #mathchat
* a LearnCentral group
* A Diigo group, using "math 2.0" tag
Here is a bit more on Math 2.0 issues. Not only is mathematics currently lagging in social spaces, the lag is increasing with time. Kids from the "digital native" generation are native to spaces where specialists still broadcast math from ivory towers, and kids aren't welcome to contribute content. Most pedagogically innovative math computer games are at least fifteen years old. Come discuss these and other trends, mostly alarming but occasionally hopeful, and meet interesting people ready to take action together.
Some of the topics the group discusses:
  • * principles of Math 2.0 teaching and learning
  • * networks and communities creating social math objects
  • * platforms for remote communication of this interest group
  • * our projects and collaboration
  • * publishing efforts and bibliography
About the presenter: Nellie Deutsch
Nellie Deutsch is proud to present Maria Droujkova who will moderate the class.
Maria is one of community organizers for the Math 2.0 interest group. Her big goal is to help people create meaningful mathematics, at their own level and within their own communities of practice. Maria's research interests include early algebra, multiplicative reasoning, social media in education, open educational resources and global collaboration. She is active in the local communities as well, helping organize and run Math Clubs and math-related community events. Maria has MS in Mathematics and PhD in Mathematics Education.

We apologize but daylight savings time has caused some confusion with the time feature.
