About the Class
Last couple of years has seen many internet users allow other to use their pictures and music. This has helped educators, students and non-profits to enhance their web-sites, papers, presentations, videos etc. without worrying about infringing on others copyright laws. This form of sharing is facilitated by Creative Commons (CC)- an organization that has drafted a set of licenses. These licenses describe just how and under what conditions the resources can be used by others.
For example if you see the text BY next to a picture, you can use it as long as you attribute the creator of the piece. If I see a NC next to a picture, I can use it in my presentations as long as I am not deriving any commercial benefit from it.
In this 45 minutes tutorial and discussion we will cover:
- 1. Where to find music and pictures licensed under CC?
- 2. How to read the various licenses?
- 3. How to use these resources and how to cite/attribute the original creator?
- 4. What else to keep in mind while using CC resources?
- 5. Examples of CC usage
