One boy in middle school made me feel so good when he told me during class that he was so happy I was there to show my nature/environmental slide shows. He said, this way I wasn't just any substitute teacher, I was the one that shows the animal slide shows and that the class could see me as a 'real person'.
Also, I also felt so good when two elementary boys were sitting in the hall after school waiting for their parents to pick them up. One boy said to the other boy as I passed, "Oh, there's our science sub!" I felt so happy with this recognition. After a few years, a boy spotted me at Home Depot (building supply store in the US). His parents were buying supplies to do some remodeling of their home. It was one of those two boys that had been waiting after school 2 years earlier. He was happy to see me and said how much he remembers me. He told me of the new high school he would attend as he and family were going to move to another neighborhood. Again, I am so happy to have these communications.
