Teaching Experience
Teacher
EIL, Ecuador
Jun 2006 - Mar 2009
General ESL, Aviation English
While I was living in Ecuador, I began teaching 'Aviation English'. I have had quite a bit of aviation experience, having been trained and certified as a flight attendant at one time and I've done substantial international traveling. Married to a corporate pilot for many years, I'm very familiar with aviation terms and have spent many hours in the cockpit of multi-engine jets, engaging in hours of aviation centered conversation, hanging around maintenance hangars, and smelling jet fuel! I've also researched the various English oral examinations approved by ICAO, giving my students a 'heads up' as to what to expect on their exam. My classes also provide test-taking strategies to help my students be more confident during their exam by being as prepared as possible.
Education
BS in Special Education
Texas State University-San Marcos, Texas, United States
Aug 1971 - Aug 1974
I believe my educational background and experience of teaching special education (speech pathology and special needs students) has helped me to have a different outlook and theory of teaching that gives me an advantage over other ESL teachers. I not only know how to keep a class interesting and exciting for a subject that can be as difficult and dry as English, but it has also provided me with an excellent understanding of how sounds are produced which helps me help students significantly with pronunciation.
