Course Description

 

Whether you are an immigrant who needs good English communications skills or a student who aspires to study in an English speaking country, this course equips you in conversational English in 12 Hours!

 

What can you look forward to achieve in this course?

  • Learn the basic grammar to get by in daily conversation and work
  • As it is based on real life scenarios, the course includes conversational content

 

The course consists of 10 chapters. Each chapter will be condensed to fit into a 60 minute session and learners will be given extra reading and writing for working further individually. The 10 chapters include:

 

  • Names and numbers: along with nationalities. Grammar focus will be on the verb to be, subject pronouns and possessive adjectives
  • Vocabulary used at schools: Classroom objects. About titles Mr, Miss, Mrs., and Ms. Identify school jobs, greet people and respond to a greeting. Grammar focus will be on this and that, singular and plural nouns and prepositions
  • Daily Usage: Time and date. Asking and answering about the weather. Understand the months of the year. Grammar focus will be on questions with verb to be, using prepositions, ordinal numbers, and prepositions of time.
  • Shopping and identifying Australian / American currency: Identify colors, describe clothing, and express opinions or preferences in clothing and colors.
  • Home and family: Identifying family members, describing them, and identifying rooms in a house, and finally using adjectives to describe people. Grammar focus will be on possessive nouns, questions with who, and the present continuous tense.
  • Housing: Identifying furniture and appliances, describing them, complaining about housing problems, ask questions about an apartment for rent, and create a housing ad. Grammar focus will be on using ‘there is’ and ‘there are’, using articles, and questions with how much and how many.
  • Community: Identify places in the community, describe locations in the community, identify businesses in the community, compare two neighborhoods, and identify jobs and work-places in the community. Grammar focus will be on using the present continuous with go, questions with why, and the imperative for directions.
  • Health and safety: The body parts, describe health problems, express sympathy, read medications, make a doctor’s appointment and give and respond to commands and warnings. Grammar focus will be on, using irregular plurals, parts of speech, yes and no questions, and imperative vs. the present continuous.
  • Work and job titles: Identifying work skills ask and answer questions about work skills, follow procedures to apply for a job advertisements, describe availability for work, and fill out a job application form. Grammar focus will be contrast simple present and present continuous, can and can’t for ability, and the past tense.
  • Future plans: Identify food groups and express likes and dislikes, talk about future plans, set educational and employment goals and interpret a work schedule. Grammar focus will be on the future tense and using ‘going to’, ‘have to’ for necessity, and adjectives to describe personality.
