- This is the module 2B in the Six Sigma Black Belt Project Manager training series.
Objectives of this module continue from the previous module of second part of Six Sigma training and helps you to understand fundamentals of creating a measurement plan and collecting samples for your Six Sigma project execution of the Measurement Phase (DMAIC).

This is the second half of the module intended for the participant to:
- Identify WHAT to collect. Start by measuring to validate the team’s understanding of the size and frequency of the problem and how well the current process is meeting customer requirements.
- Create Operational Definition. Without having precise definitions for the data the team is trying to measure, it will be difficult to obtain valid and coherent data. Different people will count different things in different ways. Therefore the team comes up with an operational definition.
- Validate Data Collection. Collecting data is also a process – a measurement process. To ensure that the variation we observe in the data we collect is true, it is essential to minimize the variation in the data collection process.
- Create Sample Plan & Collect Data. In data collection, sampling means measuring some of the items in a group or process to represent them all. It is usually too difficult and expensive to count everything. Implement the data collection plan.
