Course Description

Learn under “Guru-Shishyia Parampra” from a teacher steeped in Indore Gharana Gayaki of the legendary Ustad Amir Khan

According to Wikipedia, “Guru shishya parampara” is the tradition of spiritual relationship and mentoring in traditional Hinduism where teachings are transmitted from a guru (teacher) to a śiṣya (disciple) or cela. Such knowledge, whether it evedic, agamic artistic, architectural, musical or spiritual, is imparted through the developing relationship between the guru and the disciple. It is considered that this relationship, based on the genuineness of the guru, and the respect, commitment, devotion and obedience of the student, is the best way for subtle or advanced knowledge to be conveyed. The student eventually masters the knowledge that the guru embodies.

For a keen enthusiast of Indian Classical Music or light music (Geet/ Bhajan and Gazal) or devotional Sangeet, this course provides ample opportunities. • “Naad” is a combition of “Nakar” meaning life breath (Air) and “DAKAR” (fire or energy). There are two types of “Naad”:
    • “Ahat Naad”: Heard by our ears or is created by stroke or friction of any two things. It is directly connected with music.
    • “Anahat Naad”: Not created by any stroke or friction, it can be felt by its knowledge if we close our ears with our hands, we will hear a natural sound “SU, SU” and this sound is called ANAHAT NAAD.
  • “Shruti”: which means Expression. These “Shruti”or Intervals convey a distinct and definite expression to the listeners.
  • “Swar”: Sa Re Ga Ma Pa Dha Ni -(S) (R) (G) (M) (P) (D) (N) notation for easy writing. Types of “Swar”:
    • Movable or “Vikrit” or “Komal Swar”: R,G,D,N and M. In the notation system they take a symbol of small horizontal bar underneath the note e.g. :
    • R G D N and M is movabale as TEEVRA as M| - vertical line aove the note.
    • Immovable Swar or “Achal”: Sa and Pa remain normally In this way the 12 SWARAS are : S R R G G M M(TEEVRA) P D D N N.
  • “Saptak” or Octave: There are three voices registered which are recognised by our musicologist namely “Mandra Sthan” or Chest register. The ‘Madhya Sthan’ produces normal voice and ‘Taar Sthan ‘which produces top or head notes. When the set of seven notes are sung or played in an order it is called a ‘Saptak’ e.g. S R G M P D N S
  • “Raag”
    • Aroha (Ascend Note) S R G M P D N S
    • Avaroh (Desend Note) S N D P M G R S
