'' The Problem of Translating Culture-bound Elements in Greek & English Political Texts''
John Porfyris
A successful cultural translation would only be possible if the translator has had profound knowledge with a particular discipline that associates international or local cultures, or had lived in a country long enough to know the specific customs and mores of that culture. An acceptable cultural translation would be able to transform the cultural content of this kind of texts and transfer them to the target language, without sacrificing any of the elements which can only be understood in regard with a dual approach that includes the cultural context. The more a translator is aware of complexities and differences between cultures, the better service he can offer. It is probably right to say that from time immemorial the vast majority of translators was keenly aware of cultural differences and their significance for translation.
