About David LittleElk

I am a member of the Cheyenne River Lakota Sioux Tribe located in South Dakota, USA. I have been teaching Lakota Sioux Language, Culture and Spirituality since 1999. I have taught from Kindergarden to University levels. I have also written two books on Lakota Sioux language, culture & spirituality. My Lakota Sioux language book comes with audio CD's, which assist the students in self-study. My books are also the official Lakota Sioux Language materials of my tribe (Cheyenne River Sioux Tribe of South Dakota, USA). I believe that a language can only be taught from that culture's persective from which it belongs. Thus, language and culture are interconnected. For this reason, when I teach Lakota Sioux language, I also teach about the Lakota Culture, as well. I have given seminars on Lakota language, culture and spirituality all over Europe for several years. I have even taught a Lakota language class in Zürich, Switzerland. Currently, I am also teaching a Lakota language class in Berlin, Germany. I will be teaching two private classes on this site. One class will be Lakota Sioux Language & Culture, and the other class will be Lakota Sioux Spirituality. My classes are private and are both individual and group classes. The cost is $30.00 US or €20 per hour. Please write to my email address at david@malakota.com concerning payments.

Publications and Research

David Little Elk

This book and CD-set is also the official Lakota Sioux Language Course for the Cheyenne River Sioux Tribe in South Dakota.

Wicoh'an Otehike - The Difficult Path
David Little Elk

This is my book about Lakota Spirtuality and it also contains stories about the Creation of the Universe, Lakota Star Knowledge and much more information. The information in this book gives the foundation for Lakota Spirituality.

Wamakaskan - Two Animal Stories
David Little Elk

WAMAKASKAN is an audio spoken word CD that contains two stories. The first story is on this CD is titled "The Turtle Who Wanted To Fly". This story is about a turtle who wanted to fly like an eagle. This story is about the Lakota Perspective concerning Identity. On this CD, this story is told entirely in the Lakota Language first, then followed by an English translation. This first story is found only in one book (Wicoh'an Otehike" also by David Litlte Elk) concerning Lakota Stories, which indicates how rare this story is. The second story is about the Race around the Black Hills of South Dakota. This second story teaches about respect and care for all lifeforms. It is also about the consequences we will face, should we neglect our responsibilities to each other, as well as to all Creation.

Ptehincala San Cannumpa - The White Buffalo Calf Pipe Story
David Little Elk

This project is a spoken word audio CD, on which David tells the COMPLETE story of the White Buffalo Calf Pipe. There are many different versions of this story. However, on this CD, David retells the ORIGINAL story of this most Sacred Pipe.
